Principal Civil Design Engineer

At Arup, we are dedicated to shaping sustainable urban environments. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Principal Civil Design Engineer to oversee a variety of complex infrastructure initiatives.

About the Role

In this position, you will be responsible for leading the design and execution of intricate site infrastructures while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Your role will encompass:

  • Directing the design and implementation of site infrastructures for technically challenging projects.
  • Serving as the primary contact for clients, managing service delivery and expectations.
  • Engaging with clients throughout the project lifecycle to define and achieve design objectives.
  • Assisting in the identification of site surveys and testing required for specific design data.
  • Advancing the site infrastructure design through various stages, including permitting and procurement.
  • Overseeing civil construction activities as part of the supervisory team.
  • Contributing to the growth of our Civil Engineering practice by participating in client engagements and developing business opportunities.
  • Sharing expertise across the team to ensure the highest quality of service delivery.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about infrastructure and its environmental impact. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering along with substantial experience in a consultancy setting.
  • Chartered status or progress towards this qualification.
  • Strong technical skills in civil engineering design, including surface water management, waste systems, energy solutions, roadways, and utilities.
  • Proficiency in producing drawings, specifications, and reports within budget and timelines.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and planning landscape in Italy, with experience in navigating civil engineering projects through the planning stages.
  • Capability to lead and manage the design process from initial concepts to detailed execution.
  • Experience in coordinating design interfaces across various disciplines, including architecture and structural engineering.
  • A passion for advancing digital project delivery and staying updated on industry trends in digital technologies and BIM.
  • Experience in leading teams within a digital/BIM framework, ensuring seamless integration of civil services.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, Revit, and other BIM applications.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modeling software.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
