Position Overview
St. Mark School is in search of a dedicated full-time English Language Arts instructor for middle school students in grades 6 through 8. Our institution prides itself on fostering a robust academic environment aimed at nurturing confident and engaged learners who value themselves, their peers, and the world around them. Our alumni emerge with a solid academic and spiritual foundation, prepared to be responsible and informed members of society.
At St. Mark, we implement the Reader's and Writer's Workshop model, structured around the established "Predictable 5-part Workshop Framework" as outlined in the Lucy Calkins & TCRWP Colleagues Units of Study. Comprehensive training will be provided if necessary.
The selected candidate will collaborate effectively with fellow educators and administrative staff. Responsibilities include overseeing a grade-level homeroom, facilitating high school readiness, supporting 8th-grade graduation events, and fulfilling additional tasks as assigned by the administration. Clear communication with administration, parents, and students is essential.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for the chosen candidate will be determined in accordance with internal pay policies and budgetary considerations. Various factors will influence compensation decisions, including skills, experience, training, and departmental requirements. St. Mark offers competitive pay above the Archdiocese of Los Angeles salary schedule, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, participation in a 403b plan, a traditional pension, and optional disability and life insurance.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
1) Hold a Bachelor's degree in English from an accredited institution and possess a valid CA Teaching Credential;
2) Demonstrate understanding and capability to implement Common Core Standards;
3) Be proficient in utilizing various online resources and programs for both in-person and remote instruction;
4) Prepare and execute lesson plans, manage classroom dynamics effectively, track student progress, assess performance, and maintain accurate records;
5) Execute additional duties and administrative tasks as per school protocols or administrative requests;
6) Be an active Catholic in good standing with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Additional qualifications include: Virtus Certification, Live Scan through ADLA, negative TB test results, CPR Certification, and Catechetical Certification (preferred).
