Genoa, Liguria, Italia Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia A tempo pieno

Project Overview:

Commitment & Contract: Collaboration contract

Location: Genova

ABOUT US

At the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, we are dedicated to advancing human-centered science and technology to address significant societal challenges. Our headquarters in Genoa is interconnected with 11 other centers across Italy and two locations in the United States. We strive for excellence in both fundamental and applied research, fostering a truly multidisciplinary scientific environment.

YOUR TEAM

You will collaborate within a diverse team of computational scientists and molecular biologists, each contributing their unique expertise towards a common research objective.

Our goal is to investigate how non-coding elements (DNA/RNA) and their epigenetic modifications influence 3D genome architecture and gene expression in stem cells and cancer models. To achieve this, we employ advanced chromatin conformation assays such as Hi-C, Hi-ChIP, and Pore-C, alongside various -omics techniques (e.g., ChIP-seq, TT-seq, scRNA-seq) and CRISPR-based genetic and epigenetic engineering tools. The data generated in-house will be integrated with publicly available datasets to elucidate how ncRNAs can establish and/or sustain 3D promoter-enhancer interactions, ultimately shaping the transcriptional programs that govern stemness and tumorigenesis.

As a member of the FANTOM6 project, postdoctoral researchers in our lab will have the opportunity to participate in consortium meetings and engage in collaborative efforts both within IIT and with external institutions to develop new methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze next-generation sequencing data and integrate multi-omics datasets produced by various methods using computational tools and pipelines.
  • Interpret results and create visual representations for grant applications and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python, along with statistical methods applicable to biosciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data, including RNA-seq and ChIP-seq (experience with chromatin conformation data such as Hi-C is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently and think critically, with a proactive approach to teamwork and problem-solving.
  • A strong publication record.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Competitive salary aligned with international standards.
  • Private health insurance coverage.
  • A broad range of employee discounts.
  • Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens working abroad may qualify for significant tax deductions based on specific criteria.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • An inclusive and multicultural environment that welcomes diversity.
  • Encouragement for collaboration and networking with colleagues across different labs.
  • Support from a specialized team to assist with relocation and administrative tasks.
  • Opportunities for mentorship and guidance for entrepreneurial-minded individuals.
  • A chance to contribute to meaningful work that impacts society positively.
  • Commitment to our core values: integrity, courage, social responsibility, and inclusivity.

If you find this opportunity aligns with your aspirations, we encourage you to consider applying.
