Job Description

The successful candidate will be part of the Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML) research unit. They will design novel learning algorithms for numerical simulations of physical systems, focusing on machine learning for dynamical systems. The group has a strong focus on ML theory and algorithms, with significant interactions with other IIT groups in areas such as Atomistic Simulations, Neuroscience, and Robotics.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate open research problems in machine learning and computational physics
  • Write research papers and create open-source software to reproduce results
  • Possibly coach PhD students and interns
Requirements
  • PhD in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines
  • Good record of publications in top-tier conferences/journals in ML and related fields
  • Strong background in one of the following areas: machine learning for dynamical systems and PDEs, computational tools for numerical simulations, and ML tool knowledge, numerical optimization for ML and DL
  • Strong problem-solving attitude, working knowledge of the ML ecosystem (Python, PyTorch, JAX, scikit-learn)
  • Able to report, organize, and publish research results
  • Good command of spoken and written English
