The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Economist (Food Security Early Warning) to join its Global Markets and Trade Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing agricultural production trends and food security in developing countries.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct in-depth analysis of agricultural production trends and food security in developing countries
- Develop and maintain databases and tools to support food security analysis
- Collaborate with international organizations and national institutions to share knowledge and best practices
- Participate in crop and food security assessment missions to countries facing impending food crises
- Develop and contribute to partnerships with other FAO units, international organizations, and regional and national institutions working in the field of early warning
- Advanced university degree in economics, agricultural economics, or a related field
- Five years of relevant experience in economic analysis of agriculture and food security in developing countries
- Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish)

- Extensive experience in conducting crop and food security assessments in developing countries
- Extensive experience in contributing to and coordinating multi-institutional global food security analysis
The successful candidate will be based at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, and will be required to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team.
