Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Sommelier to join our team at The Rome EDITION. As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for providing exceptional wine service to our guests, while also maintaining a thorough knowledge of our wine list and making recommendations to enhance their dining experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with guests, employees, and/or departments to ensure seamless service and meet guest needs.
  • Answer guest questions regarding wine origin, vintage, and style.
  • Create, update, and maintain wine lists to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Pair and suggest wines to complement menu items, attending wine tastings and developing relationships with vendors.
  • Design and implement wine promotions and incentive programs to drive sales and engagement.
  • Monitor and replenish wine cellar inventory, equipment, and glassware, conducting vintage and BIN number checks.
  • Conduct staff wine tastings and training sessions to ensure knowledge and skills are up-to-date.
  • Complete opening and closing duties, including setting up supplies and tools, cleaning equipment, and locking doors.
  • Inspect storage areas for organization, use of FIFO, and cleanliness, completing scheduled inventories and stock requisitions.
  • Monitor dining rooms for seating availability, service, safety, and guest well-being, completing work orders for maintenance repairs.
  • Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne bottles, securing liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.
  • Follow all state and local laws for serving alcohol responsibly, maintaining accurate spill sheets.
Requirements
  • Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and motivating employees, serving as a role model and first point of contact for the Guarantee of Fair Treatment/Open Door Policy process.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures, reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager, and completing safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintaining confidentiality of proprietary information and protecting company assets.
  • Welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards, anticipating and addressing service needs, assisting individuals with disabilities, and thanking guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with others, supporting team goals, and listening and responding to employee concerns.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards, identifying, recommending, developing, and implementing new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings.
  • Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats, standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods, moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
