We are seeking a highly skilled Product Development Specialist to join our team at Burberry. As a key member of our Product Development function, you will be responsible for delivering the end-to-end product development process in your respective category.
Key Responsibilities- Examine and interpret design inputs, implementing related requests and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to create prototypes and samples.
- Develop a close relationship with the style office, serving as a point of reference for designers and ensuring that technical characteristics of finished products are respected.
- Collaborate with pattern model-makers to ensure that materials chosen are suitable for the type of product and compile BOMs of prototypes and samples on PLM.
- Participate in product sign-off meetings with Design and Merch, ensuring all necessary information is updated in the BOM and communicated to wider teams.
- Work closely with the Product Engineering team to ensure all trials and requests after the Pass-off meeting are actioned, leveraging their technical knowledge and negotiating any aesthetic changes to protect the design vision.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and the internal atelier to ensure the creation of prototypes and samples in accordance with style requests, within the right timescales.
- Work closely with the costing department to ensure suitable alternatives are developed and presented to the studio to improve margins.
- Ability to work in partnership with senior designers, understanding and interpreting their creative aesthetic and design vision.
- Technical capability and product knowledge with ability to confidently influence the Design team and provide on-the-spot solutions in leather goods construction, leather/materials knowledge linked to shape and performance, and hardware development in metal and alternative materials.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, delivering clear briefs, and leveraging relationships to meet demands.
- Able to manage within a budget with commercial awareness and understanding of product cost, achieving a balance between creativity and commercial implications throughout the product development process.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate with credibility, share information effectively, and work confidently with cross-functional teams.
- In-depth knowledge of fashion and products in relevant categories, knowledge of trends, the market, the luxury consumer, and peer awareness.
- Advanced professional proficiency in Italian and English languages.
