Job Title: Livestock Policy Officer - Environmental Impact Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Livestock Policy Officer - Environmental Impact Specialist to join our team at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of policies and programmes aimed at promoting sustainable livestock production and reducing the environmental impact of the livestock sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis on the environmental impacts of livestock production and develop policies and recommendations to mitigate these impacts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to develop and implement projects and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable livestock production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Support the development of training materials and capacity-building activities for Member Nations on sustainable livestock production and environmental impact assessment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Member Nations on the development and implementation of sustainable livestock production practices and environmental impact assessments.

Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, environmental engineering, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in assessing environmental impacts through production chains, particularly from greenhouse gas emissions, and preferably for livestock agrifood systems.
  • Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Experience with the management and processing of large (geospatial) data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft concise technical reports and/or scientific publications.
