About the Role

The FAO is seeking a highly skilled Economist to join its team as an Agrifood Systems Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the organization's mission of reducing poverty, hunger, and malnutrition, while promoting sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced economic and quantitative analysis of agrifood systems, including the use of econometric models, spatial analysis, and data visualization.
  • Develop and apply economic models to evaluate the impact of policies and investments on agrifood systems and food security.
  • Provide technical assistance to countries and other stakeholders on economic analysis and policy formulation related to agrifood systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement projects and programs related to agrifood systems and food security.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of agrifood systems and economic analysis.
Requirements
  • Advanced university degree in economics, econometrics, agricultural economics, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in economic and quantitative analysis of agrifood systems, including experience with advanced econometric models, spatial analysis, and data visualization.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
  • Excellent programming skills in specialized software, particularly R, but also others such as STATA, ArcGIS, Python, or others.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams with minimal supervision and to plan workflows to meet tight deadlines.
