Job Summary:

FAO is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Evaluation Officer to lead the evaluation of complex programs and initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The successful candidate will have a strong background in evaluation and research, with a focus on agrifood systems, climate change, and sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage evaluations of complex programs and initiatives, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of results.
  • Develop and implement evaluation methodologies and tools, ensuring alignment with FAO's Strategic Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including FAO's Member Nations, to ensure that evaluation findings are used to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to evaluation teams, ensuring that evaluations are conducted in accordance with FAO's evaluation policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including evaluation partners and donors, to ensure that evaluation findings are used to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.

Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, with a focus on research/evaluation methods or in a life science with specific training in evaluation.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in conducting and managing development evaluations at the global, regional, or country levels.
  • Working knowledge of English, Spanish, or French, with proficiency in at least one of these languages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex evaluation findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with a strong focus on collaboration and partnership-building.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is essential.

  • Extensive and relevant work experience conducting evaluations in substantive fields related to FAO's mission, including agrifood systems, climate change, and sustainable development.
