Database Administrator

Villanova University is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our Oracle databases.

1. Database Design and Implementation:
   • Design and implement Oracle-based database systems to support our Ellucian Banner ERP and related products.
   • Develop and maintain database documentation, including standards and policies.
2. Database Administration and Maintenance:
   • Perform routine database administration tasks, such as backups, restores, patches, and security updates.
   • Monitor and maintain the day-to-day operations of our Banner ERP and related application performance and health.
   • Manage user access and permissions to ensure data security and integrity.
3. Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
   • Provide technical support for Ellucian Banner applications and database-related issues.
   • Collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
   • Diagnose and resolve database performance problems, ERP application issues, and other technical difficulties.

1. Formal Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. Work Experience:
   • Minimum 3 years of related database administration and application infrastructure experience.
   • Experience with Ellucian Banner products and Oracle databases.
   • Experience with projects involving multiple technologies and functions.
3. Work Skills:
   • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
   • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
   • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Specific Job Knowledge:
   • Competence with Linux, SQL, and PL/SQL.

1. Formal Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. Work Experience: Experience working in higher education.
3. Specific Job Knowledge:
   • Experience serving on campus task forces/committees as technical lead/technical advisor.
   • Experience in PL/SQL and other developer tools used to support programming that include new functionality, automated interfaces, and/or enhancements to vendor-provided software.
   • Proficiency with Linux scripting.
   • Experience with Ellucian ODS and EDW.
   • Experience with Evisions and Automic.
   • Experience with cloud applications/systems, including Ellucian Experience, Advise, Degree Works.
   • Advanced professional expertise and working knowledge in Oracle Database Administration, Apache Tomcat, Banner Administration, and middleware integrations.
