AI/ML Researcher - Machine Intelligence Development

Fraunhofer Italia Research scarl, with headquarters in Bolzano, Italy, is seeking an AI/ML researcher to join its research group "Machine Intelligence Development" within the department "Robotics & Intelligent Systems Engineering". This group focuses on the development of AI-based solutions mainly (but not limited to) applied to automation technology involving intelligent robots and systems.

As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will work on various research projects at the interface between science and practice, for both public and private clients. Your main activity will involve the development and the design of AI/ML solutions for application in the areas of e.g., industrial production plants, automation in construction and precision/automated farming.

The emphasis will be on the development of application-oriented concepts and their implementation in cooperation with clients, and on further expanding the institute's scientific know-how in these areas.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in machine learning engineering or computer science.
  • Excellent programming skills in C++ or Python, with hands-on experience with Machine Learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and standard "data-science" libraries (e.g., Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, Seaborn).
  • Experience with Git for version control.
  • Proficiency in English and either Italian or German.

Nice to have:

  • Fluent English.
  • Experience with ML ecosystem tools (e.g., Data Version Control (DVC), MLflow).
  • Knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Knowledge of ROS (Robot Operating System) and experience with robotics systems.
