We are currently looking for an Automation & Process Control Specialist to join our Engineering division in Rome, Italy, reporting directly to the Digital Plants Section Head.
Role Overview
In this position, you will be part of the Digital Plants Section, primarily responsible for:
- Developing, testing, and implementing both simple and complex regulatory process control strategies.
- Crafting detailed designs and executing tests for intricate logics and sequences.
- Overseeing the supply and implementation of Advanced Process Control (Multivariable) and Optimization systems.
- Managing the supply and commissioning of Operator Training Simulator (OTS) systems.
- Directing the supply and implementation of Digital Application software, including 3D OTS/Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, IIoT, and MES.
You will engage in various phases of projects, including FEED (Front End Engineering Design), EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), and Revamping Projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze process operations and control requirements to define appropriate regulatory control strategies for DCS implementation.
- Develop basic and complex logics/sequences, including logic diagrams and flowcharts for DCS/ESD systems.
- Formulate advanced process control strategies based on operational data and optimization goals.
- Provide technical support during DCS/ESD configuration and testing phases, including FAT for various control strategies and logics/sequences.
- Prepare technical specifications and requisitions for Operator Training and Advanced Process Control systems in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Conduct technical evaluations of bids to ensure compliance with contractual specifications.
- Maintain effective communication with Vendors and Clients, ensuring proper follow-up on orders.
- Collaborate with the Process Department and other engineering disciplines to manage interfaces effectively.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of a small team of engineers.
- Review documentation provided by Vendors.
- Ensure adherence to committed man-hours and budget constraints.
- Report on engineering and requisitioning activities to the Lead Discipline Engineer and Section Head.
- Uphold Quality and HSE objectives throughout the project lifecycle.
- Interface with specialists from other disciplines and project support functions such as procurement and planning.
- Mentor and guide junior engineering staff.
You will have opportunities for business travel to attend technical meetings with Clients or Suppliers, visit Vendor workshops, and collaborate with colleagues across various Technip Energies locations. Additionally, you may engage in site-related engineering activities within the Instrumentation and Automation discipline, supporting erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up tasks.
Candidate Profile
We welcome applications from candidates who meet the following essential qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-6 years of experience in detailed engineering and design for projects in Refinery, Gas, Power, Renewables, or Infrastructure.
- A degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
- Proficiency in process unit operations, with at least 2-3 years of experience in process design or a related field.
- Familiarity with general Instrumentation and Automation principles (DCS/ESD).
- Understanding of safety interlocks and control logics for various machinery and equipment.
- Fluency in English.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Ability to deliver work on time while maintaining quality standards.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Willingness to undertake international assignments, both short and long term.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Advanced Process Control systems.
- Familiarity with Operator Training Simulator technologies.
- Knowledge of MES applications and Digital Twin concepts.
- Experience in process modeling and simulation techniques.
- Understanding of DCS configuration criteria and Vendor-specific configuration blocks.
- Knowledge of Automation Systems architecture and hardware design principles.
- Experience in site operations and Automation Systems upgrades.
