Head of Collection Development for the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection

The University of Texas Libraries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Collection Development for the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection. As a key member of the library's collection development team, you will be responsible for identifying and acquiring information resources to support the study and teaching of Latin American subjects at the University of Texas.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement collection development strategies for the Benson Collection, including setting priorities for collection growth and providing leadership and guidance to bibliographers.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Special Collections on rare materials acquisitions and with the Head of Digital Initiatives to assess born-digital acquisitions and integrate post-custodial methods and collaborations into collection development strategies.
- Manage the Benson Collection acquisitions budget, including endowments, and work collaboratively with the UT Libraries Scholarly Resources team on overarching collection development matters and strategies.
- Serve as the library liaison for faculty, staff, and visiting researchers for one or more region of Latin America, providing specialized research and reference support.
- Develop and build relationships with campus and local cultural institutions and community organizations, and conduct rare materials showings and tours for visitors.
- Represent the Benson Collection with UT Libraries, UT-Austin administration, patrons, donors, and other stakeholders, and serve as the primary contact for collection development matters.
- Master's degree (MLS and/or MA in any Latin American Studies discipline) plus 4 years of experience relevant to library collection development, or PhD in any Latin American Studies discipline and 2 years of experience relevant to library collection development.
- Specialization in and thorough knowledge of the history and culture of Latin America/Caribbean, and full professional fluency in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated knowledge of collection development and management, including archives, and ability to provide leadership in decision making and strategic planning necessary for expanding an outstanding collection of rare archival materials.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, using tact, diplomacy, and discretion at all times, and ability to organize short- and long-term priorities and projects and work with multiple deadlines.
