Mechanical Engineer for Rail and Transit Systems

RINA is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Rail and Transit Systems to join its team within the Transport & Mobility Division.

Role Overview

This position is dedicated to ensuring the optimal performance and dependability of ventilation systems in tunnels and buildings associated with railway, metro, and road design and construction projects, while complying with relevant regulations and RINA's quality benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on ventilation and safety systems for rail and road tunnels and buildings.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical issues and malfunctions.
  • Supervise and engage in the design and installation of new systems, as well as the enhancement of existing ones, ensuring appropriate sizing, configuration, and commissioning.
  • Perform regular testing and inspections to confirm that systems adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all tasks performed, including maintenance reports and operational manuals.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, such as civil (structural) engineering and system design, to ensure effective integration and functionality of systems.

Educational Background

A Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in the railway, metro, tram, or road infrastructure sectors, particularly in ventilation and safety systems.
  • Strong understanding of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) ventilation, along with proficiency in design tools (e.g., fluid dynamics calculation tools).
  • Familiarity with drainage design and associated design tools is advantageous, as well as knowledge of conditioning systems.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the capability to utilize computerized diagnostic tools.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
