Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Function: Quality Assurance
Location: IT, Ferrara (FE)

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for delivering quality assurance support to manufacturing operations, ensuring that the components and products procured from suppliers comply with engineering specifications. This role will actively promote quality enhancements, ensure adherence to corporate standards, and lead organizational initiatives aimed at achieving 'zero defects' performance. The individual will cultivate cross-functional collaboration to implement process enhancements and problem-solving initiatives within the supply chain, focusing on safeguarding and elevating incoming product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance in this role will be evaluated based on project completions and supplier quality metrics. Champions and drives quality improvement initiatives both internally and within the supply chain. Manages non-conformance issues and supplier corrective action reports as needed. Leads Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) efforts within the organization and with suppliers. Oversees advanced product quality planning, acts as a barrier remover, and ensures successful launch of supply chain projects. Collaborates closely with Procurement and Engineering to define the Quality Plan and PPAP requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Manages supplier quality metrics, including enhancements to PPAP results, supplier scorecards, Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR), supplier audits, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) processes. Conducts ISO-based audits at supplier facilities, evaluates corrective action results, and enhances supplier evaluation, scorecard, and approval processes through corrective actions, continuous improvement, and off-sourcing strategies. Provides supplier quality training at supplier or company facilities to align with specific quality expectations and requirements. Optimizes process capability on critical characteristics at the supply base through effective application of statistical analysis techniques and problem-solving methodologies. Proactively engages with suppliers to mitigate ongoing quality and performance challenges. Reviews and approves supplier PPAP submissions to ensure compliance with organizational standards. Willingness to travel 30 to 50% of the year (within Europe). Must be able to obtain necessary travel documentation as required.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing, or quality engineering. Experience in electronics assembly, electrical equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, or related industries is advantageous. Familiarity with ETQ, JD Edwards software quality systems is beneficial. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with FMEA, Control Plans, statistical process control, inspection techniques, root cause analysis, capability studies, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Proficient in report writing using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and analysis with Minitab. ASQ Certification as a Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt, or Lean Certification is a plus. Knowledge of PPAP processes and tools. Familiarity with ISO standards or IATF is required. Innovative problem solver, experienced with 7 or 8-step / 8D problem-solving methodologies. Strong team-building and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing teams at all organizational levels.
