HHLA PLT Italy is a leading maritime terminal in the North Adriatic market, aiming to integrate its current facility into a fully automated state-of-the-art container terminal. We are seeking an experienced Automation & IT Specialist to join our Expansion Project Team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation and IT, with experience in building processes and delivering automation projects. They will be responsible for reviewing operational flows and following automation and IT requirements in close coordination with the Operations Implementation Team, the Safety team, and the Asset team.

The Automation & IT Specialist will support documenting solutions from a conceptual level down to the detailed technical solution that can be implemented. This will involve close collaboration with external equipment suppliers and internal teams. The successful candidate will be a problem solver and collaborator across the project team, gathering and sharing information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Derive technical solutions from automation concepts to support business/operations
  • Be part of the solution of automation and IT requirements for all operational flows
  • Project support automation topics or automated areas
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Apply best practices in terms of automation, IT, and safety
  • Forecast problem areas and provide solutions
  • Share requirements with the Asset team
  • Interface with HHLA PLT Italy existing IT and automation
  • Comply with all safety and security rules and regulations
  • Support the department and business unit where required
  • Follow the corporate authority matrix, contract policies compliance guidelines
  • Actively report improvement opportunities to direct report

Requirements:

  • Good English (Italian and/or German are a plus)
  • Experience (5+ years) in automation/IT (port experience highly valued but not mandatory)
  • Experience (5+ years) in building processes and delivering automation projects
  • Thorough understanding of safety in automated environments (experience with the Italian legal environment and EU machinery directive highly valued)
  • Strong problem solver – both in terms of technical solutions and collaborating with others
  • Ability to work in an agile environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to translate high-level concepts into technical solutions
  • Process and logic-driven mentality
  • Degree in Engineering/IT/Automation or other

The ideal candidate will have a valid EU working permit and be willing to relocate to Trieste in short notice.
