Role Overview
As a surveyor in a classification society, you will play an essential role in maintaining the safety, compliance, and quality of marine vessels and assets. Your primary responsibilities will focus on ensuring that ships adhere to international standards and classification society regulations. #LI-MC1
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Adherence: Guarantee compliance with classification society standards, international laws, and statutory obligations during inspections and surveys. Adapt to new regulations as they emerge. Technical Guidance: Offer expert technical support to clients, shipowners, and manufacturers regarding classification, design, construction, and maintenance. Stay updated on the latest industry advancements and technologies to ensure the application of contemporary knowledge in surveys. Problem Resolution: Serve as a troubleshooter, addressing technical challenges that may arise during surveys or client interactions. Quality Control: Implement quality assurance protocols in survey processes to maintain the highest levels of accuracy and reliability in inspection documentation. Client Awareness: Inform clients about classification society procedures, regulations, and the significance of compliance for safety and operational effectiveness. Documentation and Reporting: Utilize standardized templates for inspection reports, ensuring clarity, consistency, and promptness in reporting. Integrate digital solutions for effective documentation management and reporting. Team Collaboration: Work alongside colleagues within the classification society and externally to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices. Actively engage in team discussions and contribute to a cooperative work atmosphere. Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in continuous professional growth to remain informed about evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices. Pursue relevant certifications or qualifications to enhance professional expertise. Ethical Standards: Maintain the highest ethical principles in all professional dealings, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout the survey process.Educational Background
Master’s Degree in Naval EngineeringExperience Requirements
• Generally, a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Junior Surveyor or at least 5 years' experience in engineering or survey roles within the marine sector or other relevant industries.
• Proficiency in English that aligns with the scope of classification, statutory certification, and related services, as well as future assignments.
• Ability to develop a comprehensive understanding of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and associated instructions, along with the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
• Capability to interpret engineering plans and possess foundational knowledge of shipbuilding practices and operations.
• Ability to conduct either,
1) new building surveys:
− assess the suitability of certified materials and products for new construction,
− ensure that hull, machinery, and equipment comply with rules and regulations through necessary inspections, tests, and trials,
− issue Certificates, Reports, Records, and Status in accordance with regulations.
And/or:
2) ship in service surveys:
− verify that hull, machinery, and equipment have been maintained in compliance with regulations through comprehensive inspections, tests, and trials,
− identify deficiencies requiring rectification (if any) and determine if immediate repairs are necessary or if a condition may be issued with an appropriate due date,
− follow up on any repair work or outstanding conditions as mandated by regulations,
− assess whether identified deficiencies may be linked to potential failures in the Ship Management System,
− endorse Certificates and issue R.
