Join Our Team as an Underwriter - Credit Risk Specialist

At Dojo, we're looking for a skilled Underwriter - Credit Risk Specialist to join our team in Milan. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth onboarding of new clients and managing risk across the Italian market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments of potential clients, analyzing financial statements, KYC documentation, and identifying potential risks of financial crime.
  • Evaluate creditworthiness of potential clients, considering factors such as financial stability, information management, cash flow, payment history, guarantees, industry trends, and non-financial factors.
  • Verify KYC and KYB requirements, including identity verification, business certification, property identification, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Understand acquiring risks in a wide range of complex proposals across various clients, sectors, and product offerings.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including commercial teams and clients, to maximize onboarding opportunities, manage case escalations, and support risk and underwriting functions.
  • Collaborate with compliance, financial crime, legal, and other teams to ensure robust risk management practices across all functions.
  • Develop and document policies and processes for the underwriting team, identifying areas for improvement and providing solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact onboarding or client risk profiles.
What You'll Bring:
  • Proven experience in underwriting or credit risk roles within a financial institution, with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the Italian market.
  • University education or equivalent experience in credit risk, underwriting, or a similar role in the financial services sector in Italy.
  • Knowledge of credit risk, financial crime, and AML specifically in the payments sector, including familiarity with card scheme regulations, industry norms, and chargeback processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A customer-centric approach, balancing risk management and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborative mindset, working effectively in a team environment to drive continuous improvement and achieve shared goals.
  • Motivation to grow and develop skills, with a passion for innovation and driving change in the payments sector.
  • Fluency in Italian and English.
