About the Role

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communication Officer to join its Fisheries and Aquaculture Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of communications and outreach activities to enhance the visibility of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean's (GFCM) work among its stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of internal and external communications, multimedia production, web content, media relations, and publishing activities of the Organization.
  • Research and analyze technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology-related information to support communication.
  • Produce and draft a variety of information and reports, as well as inputs for communication-related documents.
  • Design and develop new media outlets and assets to increase brand visibility.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with key media organizations and strategic partners.
  • Collaborate in the development of improved tools, systems, and processes.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings.
Requirements
  • Advanced university degree in communication, international relations, social science, journalism, political science, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in communications and/or outreach in international organizations or in private enterprises.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language.
  • Technical/Functional Skills: Work experience in more than one location or area of work; knowledge and experience of the work and functioning of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs); experience in supporting the development of sound communication strategies; experience in supporting large-scale conferences or meetings; experience in preparing high-quality communications materials; familiarity with FAO strategies and processes supporting communications; experience in effectively adapting communications to a variety of audiences.
Working Arrangements

The post is located in the GFCM headquarters at Palazzo Blumenstihl (Rome) and the incumbent is expected to provide expert support to the Executive Secretary and relevant staff of the GFCM Secretariat.

Language

The official languages of the FAO are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. The working language of the GFCM is English.
