Job Title: Forestry Officer - Ecosystem Restoration Specialist

FAO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forestry Officer to join its team in Rome, Italy. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to the FAO-led Task Force on Best Practices and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology-related information, data, and statistics to support the delivery of programme projects, products, and services.
  • Undertake analysis, provide technical input for plans and reports, and edit/revise technical/scientific documents.
  • Participate in the development of improved work methods, tools, and systems.
  • Update databases and web pages.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project/work teams.
  • Collaborate in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars, etc.
  • Participate in the organization, conduct, and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences, the development/production of required materials, and the provision of information and assistance to partners.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree in forestry, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience in capacity development and knowledge dissemination for ecosystem restoration, forestry, or natural resource management.
  • Working knowledge of English (proficient - level C) and limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of one of the other official FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in the field of capacity development and knowledge dissemination, especially for ecosystem restoration.
  • Knowledge of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its key framing documents.
  • Demonstrated capacity to write technical reports and documents in English.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in facilitating and sustaining partnerships and networks.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in the preparation, editing, and revision of technical/scientific documents.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in organizing and participating in international meetings, events, and webinars.
  • Extent and relevance of experience and skills in programme management.
