About the Role

Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of On Board Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for managing a team of systems engineers who design and develop on board systems for mass transit platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of systems engineers responsible for the design and development of on board systems, including brake, HVAC, passenger doors, fire detection, coupler, gangway, and floor systems.
  • Oversee the analysis of system performance, functional, and integration requirements in collaboration with Train System Engineers and project teams.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements specifications for suppliers.
  • Define system architecture and functions with suppliers and Train System Engineers.
  • Develop functional specifications for integration and operation on the vehicle.
  • Prepare system performance and functional test specifications.
  • Support testing activities at supplier facilities and on the vehicle until validation and homologation are complete.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in the railway industry with system engineering roles.
  • Knowledge of basic RAMS disciplines is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of main regulations and standards relating to on board systems in the railway business.
  • Knowledge of office automation software and tools, such as Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of system engineering processes throughout the product life cycle and with an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Recommended knowledge of electrical and mechanical design topics and software, such as Autocad, Creo, Catia, Scilab, and Matlab.
  • Knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool or equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and contribute with constructive and practical ideas and efforts.
  • Readiness to work in a collaborative and international environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in teams.
  • Availability for national and international business trips.

Education and Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Vehicle Transportation Engineering or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory, with an international C1 level.
