The Expansion Project Team is dedicated to planning and executing a transformative phased project aimed at evolving the current facility into a fully automated, cutting-edge container terminal, leveraging the latest technologies and expertise.

Role Overview

The Automation & IT Specialist is responsible for a segment of the comprehensive automation solution, overseeing the process from initial concept to final implementation. This role involves reviewing operational workflows and closely coordinating with the Operations Implementation Team, Safety team, and Asset team to ensure all Automation & IT requirements are met. The Specialist will document solutions from a conceptual level down to detailed technical specifications ready for implementation, collaborating closely with both external equipment suppliers and internal teams. This position requires a problem solver who can effectively gather and disseminate information across the project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions derived from the automation concept to support business operations.
  • Contribute to the automation and IT requirements for all operational workflows.
  • Provide project support for automation topics or automated areas.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement best practices regarding automation, IT, and safety.
  • Anticipate potential issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Communicate requirements with the Asset team.
  • Interface with existing IT and automation systems at HHLA PLT Italy.
  • Adhere to all safety and security regulations, setting a positive example.
  • Support departmental and business unit needs as required.
  • Follow corporate authority matrix and compliance guidelines.
  • Actively report opportunities for improvement to direct supervisors.

Candidate Profile

We seek a detail-oriented and process-driven individual capable of translating automation concepts into practical solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of responsibility, as this role is crucial for achieving operational objectives aligned with OPEX and CAPEX targets.

  • Proficient in English (knowledge of Italian and/or German is advantageous).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation/IT (experience in port operations is highly regarded but not essential).
  • At least 5 years of experience in process development and automation project delivery.
  • In-depth understanding of safety protocols in automated environments (familiarity with the Italian legal framework and EU machinery directives is a plus).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both technically and in collaboration with others.
  • Able to thrive in an agile work environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to convert high-level concepts into technical solutions.
  • Process-oriented and logically driven mindset.
  • Degree in Engineering, IT, Automation, or a related field.

The ideal candidate should possess a valid EU working permit and be prepared for relocation as necessary.
