This is a postdoctoral role based in Pisa, where you will contribute to pioneering research in the field of materials science.
About the Project:
The objective of this project is to leverage cutting-edge AI methodologies to optimize the growth of 2D homo/heterostructures, enabling precise control over crystal phases. This approach aims to unlock new potentials in materials science, facilitating advancements in electronics, photonics, and other applications.

At the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), we are dedicated to developing human-centered science and technology to address significant societal challenges. Our headquarters in Genoa collaborates closely with 11 centers across Italy and two international stations, fostering an interdisciplinary research environment.
Your Role:
As part of a diverse and multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with physicists, chemists, surface scientists, and engineers to conduct research in partnership with industry stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with the AI development team to implement neural networks for targeted growth objectives.
- Executing chemical vapor deposition processes for selected 2D materials, following established protocols and safety standards.
- Preparing samples, including cleaning and fabrication in a controlled cleanroom environment to ensure high-quality results.
- Characterizing samples using techniques such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy to evaluate material properties.
- Analyzing data to derive insights from experimental results.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experimental skills and a strong publication record.
- Proficiency in organizing and disseminating research findings.
- A creative mindset and enthusiasm for research.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the growth of 2D materials.
- Familiarity with artificial neural networks and machine learning techniques.
- Cleanroom experience.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
