Postdoctoral Researcher in 2D Material Growth with Artificial Neural Networks

Project Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Pisa, Italy. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge project that combines artificial neural networks and evolutionary reinforcement learning to revolutionize the growth of 2D homo/heterostructures.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with the artificial intelligence development team to ensure successful implementation of the artificial neural network for the specific growth target.
  • Conduct chemical vapor deposition growth of the selected 2D material, adhering to experimental protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Perform sample preparation, including cleaning and fabrication in the cleanroom environment, ensuring sample quality and consistency.
  • Conduct sample characterization using techniques such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy to assess material properties.
  • Perform data analysis to extract meaningful insights from experimental data.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related fields.
  • Strong experimental skills.
  • A strong publication record.
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data.
  • Creativity and marked enthusiasm for research is mandatory.
  • Excellent command in spoken and written English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in 2D materials growth.
  • Experience on artificial neural networks and machine learning.
  • Cleanroom experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving attitude.
  • High motivation to learn.
  • Spirit of innovation and creativity.
  • Good in time and priority management.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
