Purpose of the Role:
The Technology Division (TEC) serves as the backbone of WFP, linking staff with one another and with our beneficiaries, donors, and partners. TEC is responsible for all critical IT systems, driving operational continuity, efficiency improvements, and innovations that empower our global staff to effectively implement WFP's Strategic Plan. Within TEC, the Business Relationship Management (BRM) team is pivotal in the digital transformation of WFP, collaborating with all organizational sectors to identify gaps, prioritize initiatives, enhance user experiences, and expand digital solutions that boost operational efficiency and impact.
The Senior Business Engagement Manager (BEM) for the Operations Department Portfolio will primarily oversee the Technology team's relationship with the Supply Chain and Emergency divisions, shaping their technology demands to foster a more efficient and effective organization. This role is crucial as WFP addresses corporate-level Assurance and the Supply Chain Division initiates key projects to enhance food-related operations. The Senior BEM will cultivate a comprehensive understanding of these business areas, establishing trust through relationships with both operational and executive-level stakeholders to ensure essential projects are prioritized and scheduled. The Senior BEM will operate under the general supervision of the Chief, TECE, with functional reporting to the Head of the Business Engagement Unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategically plan, manage, and support Supply Chain activities, Emergency divisions, and other teams as required.
- Develop a thorough understanding of evolving business models aligned with technology investments, updating the relevant Digital Business Roadmap.
- Manage and support the creation of a comprehensive overview of demands and field needs in the Supply Chain area, establishing regular Business/TEC planning processes to optimize solution delivery and resource utilization.
- Ensure alignment between Business and TEC strategic directions, including forward-vision projects and strategies, to support field needs.
- Stay informed about new technology trends, forecast future requirements, and guide business strategies to incorporate a digital perspective.
- Monitor technology developments outside of TEC to ensure compliance with software development, support, and maintenance frameworks.
- Gain a deep understanding of existing TEC solutions and communicate their value to relevant business areas, along with new products and features.
- Collaborate with other Business Engagement Managers across Regional Bureaus and Headquarters to ensure a cohesive approach to technology and data utilization across portfolios.
Expected Deliverables:
- A comprehensive overview of supply chain needs and demands on TEC is developed and presented.
- Regular meetings between business and TEC senior leadership are established, fostering a perception of TEC as a credible partner.
- Key developments are scheduled appropriately.
- High-level processes are mapped alongside essential technology used.
- Interdependencies between assigned business areas are clarified, including interactions with processes from other portfolios.
- Assigned business areas understand the implications of being 'digitally transformed' and are committed to enhancing WFP's digital core.
- Collaboration across the BEM and TEC teams is strengthened, contributing to a well-functioning team dynamic.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a supply chain role, general management, and/or project management. Experience in finance or technology-related areas is advantageous.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Innovative approach to enhance internal and external knowledge.
- Collaborative team member with strong relationship-building skills and a facilitative nature.
- Strong project management capabilities, along with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills for senior management.
- Experience with the implementation and support of SAP/ECC Finance modules and related financial reporting tools.
- Ability to prioritize and drive sound business decisions.
- Solid understanding of technology.
- Strong ethical values, client orientation, cognitive capacity, stress resistance, and behavioral flexibility.
- General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations, and procedures is an asset.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in oral and written English is required, with intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or Portuguese being desirable.
