Senior Embedded Deep Learning Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Deep Learning Engineer to be part of the Computer Vision & Machine Learning division responsible for enhancing the AI product offerings at Datalogic.

This position entails the design and development of both AI-driven and computer vision algorithms aimed at automatically extracting information from continuous data streams. As a Senior Engineer, you will engage directly in the deployment of deep learning models at the edge. Your contributions will significantly impact Datalogic's edge devices, where you will create AI/ML models alongside traditional algorithms, employing a scientific approach to integrate them into the core architecture, manage code maintenance, oversee quality assurance efforts, and participate in all aspects of product development and release cycles. Collaboration with fellow engineers and scientists will be essential in laying the groundwork for future Datalogic AI solutions.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

Researching and developing cutting-edge Machine Learning/Deep Learning models for automated data analysis; Designing and implementing Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) for object detection, classification, and segmentation from 2D/3D camera inputs; Training, optimizing, quantizing, deploying, and monitoring the performance of DNNs on edge devices; Evaluating model performance and providing insights for targeted data collection to improve training datasets; Integrating machine learning components into existing products by optimizing the entire processing pipeline; Collaborating across functions to define product requirements that align technical objectives with the company's business goals.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Technical Skills:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering, with a specialization in Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, or related disciplines. Minimum of five years' experience in developing embedded or edge devices throughout the complete product lifecycle. At least five years' experience in creating machine learning/deep learning/computer vision algorithms for edge devices. Strong proficiency in ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Proficient programming skills in both C++ and Python. Experience in operational excellence, utilizing and assessing device metrics to monitor performance. Solid mathematical reasoning abilities, particularly in probability and statistics.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence. Languages: Proficiency in Italian and English (native or proficient). Experience: At least five years of research experience in Deep Learning/Computer Vision, with a solid understanding of ML/Deep Learning models for both regression and classification tasks. Preferred: Experience in parallel programming (CUDA, OpenCL) or SIMD development.
