The Expansion Project Team is engaged in a transformative phased initiative aimed at evolving the current facility into a fully automated, cutting-edge container terminal, leveraging the latest technologies and expertise.

Role Overview

The Automation & IT Specialist is responsible for a segment of the comprehensive automation strategy from initial concept through to execution. This role involves analyzing operational workflows and adhering to Automation & IT specifications in close collaboration with the Operations Implementation Team, Safety team, and Asset team. The Specialist will assist in documenting solutions from a conceptual stage to detailed technical implementations, working closely with external equipment suppliers and internal teams. The Automation & IT Specialist is a collaborative problem solver, facilitating information exchange across the project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions derived from the automation strategy that support business operations.
  • Contribute to the automation and IT requirements for all operational processes.
  • Provide project support for automation topics or automated areas.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Implement best practices in automation, IT, and safety.
  • Anticipate potential issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Communicate requirements with the Asset team.
  • Integrate with existing IT and automation systems at HHLA PLT Italy.
  • Adhere to all safety and security regulations, setting a positive example.
  • Support the department and business unit as needed.
  • Follow corporate authority matrix and compliance guidelines.
  • Proactively report opportunities for improvement to direct supervisors.

Qualifications

We seek a detail-oriented and process-driven individual capable of translating automation concepts into actionable solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of responsibility, as this role is crucial for achieving operational objectives aligned with OPEX and CAPEX targets.

  • Proficient in English (knowledge of Italian and/or German is advantageous).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation/IT (experience in port operations is highly regarded but not essential).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process development and automation project delivery.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety in automated environments (experience with Italian legal standards and EU machinery directives is highly valued).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both technically and in collaborative settings.
  • Able to thrive in an agile work environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to convert high-level concepts into technical solutions.
  • Process-oriented and logically driven mindset.
  • Degree in Engineering, IT, Automation, or a related field.

The ideal candidate should possess a valid EU work permit and be prepared for relocation as required.
