Safety and Occupational Health Specialist

**Duties**:

- Provide safety assistance to the district Superintendent, district Chief of Staff, school administrators, Chemical Hygiene Officers/Coordinators, nurses, facilities management and DoDEA employees in a timely manner.
- Liaison with the host installation safety, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, environmental health, and fire departments for support.
- Serve as a technical advisor for the HQ Safety and Occupational Health Division Chief, support district superintendent, school principals, and DoDEA employees on all matters pertaining to the safety of students, employees, contractors and visitors.
- Develop and deliver technical inspection reports, trend analysis, briefings, training, safety awareness products, conduct accident investigations, and maintain accident reporting and hazard tracking systems.
- Conduct safety inspections and support construction worksites where there is a strong probability of encountering hazardous work processes and materials, and unsafe environmental conditions; maintain playground safety inspector certification.
- Work as a team member within the DoDEA Division of Safety and Occupational Health and participate in projects to improve the safety program for DoDEA.
- Provide technical expertise in areas such as electrical safety, fall protection, chemical hygiene, material handling equipment, machine guarding, vehicle operations, hazard communication, and OSHA recordkeeping requirements.

**Education**: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.**OR**

**Combination of Education and Experience**: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.- Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
