BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline humanitarian agency addressing hunger
and malnutrition worldwide. WFP tackles poverty and hunger through a range of interventions: saving lives
and protecting livelihoods in emergencies; investing in the prevention and mitigation of disasters; restoring
and rebuilding lives and livelihoods in post-conflict or post-disaster situation; and other interventions to
tackle hunger. Each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in over 80 countries.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide specialist advise, analytics and contributions to the Design, Develop and implement
new supply chain processes and systems
Manage projects of National Capacity Strengthening where WFP provides technical expertise in
SC Planning related issues to Partners in the Health Sector or Governments that may require
support for their social schemes of food provision.
Manage projects and teams providing coaching, training and career guidance as required to
ensure appropriate development and enable high performance
Manage accurate and timely reporting including provision of substantial analysis of supply chain
activities and trends to enable informed decision making and consistency of information
presented to a wide range of stakeholder.
Coordinate development work in close collaboration with IT and business counterparts;
Identify analyse and formulate supply chain business needs and system requirements
Process and analyse large volumes of data from a wide range of systems
Research on supply chain best practices, innovations & technology;
Analyse overall SC Planning issues, propose solutions, prioritize and escalate to management;
Support with the innovation and incubation of other supply chain tools as per need
Conceptual and operational support for integrated supply chain planning;
Advanced analysis in support of emergencies and complex operations.
If required, to provide specialist advise, analytics and contributions to integrated supply chain
operations at HQ/RB/CO level to ensure effective an integrated supply chain approach, meeting
the food assistance needs of beneficiaries
Support SCOO management as and when required.
Specific projects the Supply chain Officer will be involved in, include but are not limited to:
o Provide support & Coordinate the SCOO projects in the Health Sector with Global Fund, Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNDP, WHO, French Red Cross and World Vision, in 5
different countries: CAR, Ivory Coast, Yemen, Chad and Guinea
o Provide support & Coordination to the National capacity strengthening project with the
Government of India, on Supply Chain Optimization to FCI and the State of Uttarakhand
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Master Degree or equivalent in engineering, specialization in logistics/Supply
Chain
Experience: Minimum 5 years in Supply Chain related industry, including business
analysis, data extraction and analysis, development of analytical tools
Experience in managing relationships and national capacity building
initiatives with UN Agencies, private sector and/or government organizations
Experience supervising staff
Knowledge
& Skills:
Supply chain-related industry experience.
Highly numerate with an innate ability to analyse and interpret data
quickly, and recommend improvements.
Advanced use of Excel.
Knowledge on Supply Chain and industrial management.
Highly developed influencing skills, with experience of using both written
and verbal presentation to influence outcomes.
Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Good people management skills.
Flexibility and ability to work with deadlines under sometimes - stressful
conditions.
Ability to work both individually and in a team as appropriate.
Problem solving skills.
Languages: Verbal and written fluency in English required.
