Cespira is a joint venture between Volvo Group and Westport Fuel Systems, dedicated to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.With offices in Gothenburg (Sweden), Vancouver (Canada), and Brescia (Italy), Cespira is leading the way in developing and commercializing High-Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) technology for heavy-duty engines.This innovative technology supports the use of hydrogen and renewable fuels, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.Our mission is to provide practical, scalable solutions that accelerate the transition to a decarbonized future, ensuring cleaner air and a better world for future generations.We are committed to building on our strong reputation for excellence and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in transportation.The Product Engineer (PE) – Brescia plays a vital role in supporting the Engineering Product Lead (EPL) for products in current production and may be assigned as an EPL for specific products.Acting as the on-site extension of the Vancouver Product Engineering organization, this role is responsible for driving consistent execution, leveraging efficient processes and tools, and proactively enhancing product quality and team effectiveness through hands-on engineering ownership.In addition to supporting current production, the PE actively contributes to product development initiatives and leads engineering builds in partnership with Vancouver Product Engineering, ensuring that insights from plant operations and field experience are translated into robust design improvements.Job RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).Experience as a Product Engineer with exposure to current-product support and/or EPL responsibilities; experience working directly with plant, quality, and suppliers preferred.Track record of good technical decisions supported by calculations, analysis, and written documentation; strong understanding of engineering processes (e.g., APQP).CAD and PLM proficiency (e.g., PTC Creo+, Windchill+); strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5M or ISO).Working knowledge of relevant systems (e.g., cryogenic LNG storage, high/low-pressure gas storage/supply, on-engine fuel conditioning components such as injectors, regulators, valves) is an asset.Familiarity with manufacturing methods, properties of materials, applicable standards; experience with data-driven problem solving/statistical analysis is an asset.Strong ownership and follow-through; able to coordinate cross-functional actions and drive closure.Strong verbal and written communication (Italian & English); ability to communicate technical matters effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers across languages and cultures.Highly organized, process-oriented, self-motivated, capable of working independently, and comfortable balancing urgent plant needs with disciplined engineering practices.Fluency in Italian and English required (customer, supplier, and Vancouver collaboration).On-site presence in Brescia with field and supplier travel as needed; frequent cross-time-zone collaboration with Vancouver.Job ResponsibilitiesSupport the Engineering Product Lead (EPL) as the Engineering representative in the Product Core Team, assisting with updating Engineering issue slides and coordinating closure of Engineering issues with cross-functional teams.May be assigned as the EPL for a product, taking ownership of these responsibilities directly.Provide on-site plant support for quality and process issues.Participate in off-site supplier visits as needed to resolve technical issues.Assist with or own design changes and corrective actions.Support field returns parts analysis.Provide real-time customer support for field issues, including assisting with 8D responses within 24 hours when required.Support Production MBOM management.Brescia Engineering Build Support & OwnershipCollaborate with Vancouver Product Engineers and EPLs to plan, execute, and drive engineering builds during product development (pre-production/prototype), including build readiness, deviations, data capture, and post-build learnings feeding back into design and DVP.Product Development WorkContribute to requirements, DFMEA, design reviews, calculations/analysis/modelling, DVP definition/execution, and structured problem solving/RCAs.Ensure designs, drawing packages, and engineering documentation meet standards (ASME/ISO GD&T) and are released correctly via PLM (Windchill+).Promote adherence to the Company's Product Development Process (CPDP) and continuous improvement of processes/tools.Stakeholder & Cross-Site CollaborationAct as the "eyes and ears" for Vancouver Product Engineers and EPLs at the Brescia site; surface risks, emerging issues, and learnings quickly; facilitate time-zone handoffs.Provide input to Product Planning and Product Managers; collaborate with functional leads/managers to clear roadblocks while considering product and business needs.Quality, Policy & KnowledgeBe accountable for the quality of your output;
