Development FocusWe are pioneering the development of robotics dexterous hands that:Enable unprecedented generalization across diverse tasksAre compliant but at the same time impact resistantCan enable power grasps with the same reliability as fine dexterity and nonprehensile manipulationCan naturally cope with the uncertainty of the environmentLeverage mechanical intelligence, multi-modal future of automation and human-robot collaboration.Key job responsibilitiesDesign and implement novel highly dexterous and reliable robotic dexterous hand morphologiesDevelop parallel paths for rapid finger design and prototyping combining different actuation and sensing technologies as well as different finger morphologiesDevelop new testing and validation strategies to support fast continuous integration and modularityBuild and test full hand prototypes to validate the performance of the solutionCreate hybrid approaches combining different actuation technologies, under-actuation, active and passive complianceHand integration into rest of the embodimentPartner with cross-functional teams to rapidly create new concepts and prototypesWork with Amazon's robotics engineering and operations teams to grasp their requirements and develop tailored solutionsDocument the designs, performance, and validation of the final systemBasic QualificationsPhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experienceExperience using one or more of the following technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, SketchUp, KeyShot, etc.) to deliver high quality models and designsExperience applying theoretical models in an applied environmentExperience in finger actuation, under-actuation, active and passive complianceExperience in tactile sensingPreferred QualificationsExperience programming in Java, C++, Python or related languageExperience with at least one of the following: Matlab, R, Python, StataExperience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organizationPhD in Robotics, with focus on mechanical design and robot controlExperience in tendon-driven, electrical and series elastic actuatorsBackground in real-time control, particularly in torque / impedance control and contact-rich manipulationExperience with grasp planningExperience in ROS/ROS2Amazon is an equal geographic markets.The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market.Pay is based on a number of factors
