JOB TITLE: API Specialist

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
TEC has started a digital transformation initiative that aims to modernize and evolve its current digital solutions ecosystem. As part of this initiative, a new team, the Integration Services Team, has been established.
The objective of the team is to focus on 5 macro domains to serve our digital solutions, namely:
-The API ecosystem aims to create a reliable and robust set of programmability capabilities for the organization;
-The Information Layer, which aims to create new data flows from corporate systems, new data integration and transformation solutions, and the implementation of the WFP Data Lake;
-The identity services, whose objective is to define a solid authentication/authorization layer to secure and expose our digital capacity;
-The Enterprise Foundational services, aiming to catalog, organize, and evolve the corporate critical Datasets and APIs assets fostering usage and consumption of them;
As part of the Integration Services team, the incumbent will be responsible for the API ecosystem evolution, development and adoption.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general and functional supervision of the Head of Integration Services unit, the API Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
API ecosystem management
-Lead the API development and ecosystem of the WFP Corporate Digital Core;
-Coordinate the developers (internal and external) working on the API ecosystem;
-Design, plan and develop new API integration patterns based on current and upcoming challenges in the Digital Core team;
-Evolve the corporate Enterprise Foundational Services of the different corporate solutions powered by the Digital Core (School Meals, Small Holder Farmers, Service Provision, SCOPE, new Line of Sight);
-Support the implementation of the Enterprise Foundational Services for location and commodities management;
-Provide expertise on the best way to implement Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the WFP ecosystem;
-Build reliable, resilient and robust production ready components to be plugged in the family of services of the new WFP Digital Core;
-Be the custodian in the organization of the API/SOA principles enforcing their implementation and consumption among the different corporate services.
Cloud ecosystem
-Provide guidance to other teams on the digital core’s Cloud Native/Cloud First architecture;
-Support and evolve the WFP Digital Core’s current Cloud landscape;
-Proactively identify ways to optimize costs and implement elasticity in our cloud landscape;
-Lead the current cloud hosting landscape for proper, robust, secure and resilient API consumption;
-Leverage on cloud-based services in order to empower WFP developers.
Security
-Secure the Digital Core components with latest security techniques;
-Follow the “rugged software” manifesto in any software development activity;
-Support the Vulnerability Management framework led by TECI in the Digital Core infrastructure;
-Review, audit and test regularly the security compliancy of the Digital Core.
Developer Experience
-Write solid, enterprise level API documentation for Developers;
-Enforce the API first principle, master the OpenAPI specification among developer communities;
-Work on Enterprise Foundational Services definition for easiness and predictability in consumption;
-Write developers guides and articles on how the digital core must be interfaced and leveraged.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
•Ensure effective delivery of required APIs;
•100% of developed services in TEC are supported by the API mediation Service and able to publish their APIs in the Digital Core API store;
•Write proper documentation of the Digital Core components, for internal usage;
•Write proper documentation for Developers to increase speed to market, reduce onboarding time, and avoid misalignments between the Digital Core team and others;
•Strengthen the Digital Core capabilities;
•Evolution of the corporate Enterprise Foundational Services;
•99.9% of service uptime for all the Digital Core API components;
•99.9% of service uptime for all the Digital Core components is directly under the control of the incumbent;
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University Degree in computer science, mathematics, or statistics or equivalent training in a related technical field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years post-graduate, progressively responsible professional experience as a Web Developer within an organization and proven record of accomplishment in the development and implementation of IT applications.
Possession of a combination of broad business skills and IT experience including:
•IT solution development: Requirements, Design, Development, Implementation.
•Business analysis: creation and review of business, functional, and non-functional requirements for IT solutions.
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong experience with Development standard tools/methodologies
-Excellent knowledge of API-based architectures
-Strong knowledge of the Digital Core primary components such as WSO2, AWS SAAS, and Palantir Foundry data interfaces
-Proficiency in data pipeline implementation
-Good knowledge of Continuous Delivery principles, deliverables, and practices
-Good knowledge of WFP IT infrastructure / Services.
-Strong and proven experience with Django/Python development stack (Django, Python 2.7 or 3.x, Postgres SQL, Nginx).
-Strong and proven experience in using Git versioning system and GitFlow.
-Strong and proven experience in working in a Scrum Agile environment.
A certain degree of autonomy and self-management skills are required to identify solutions to be submitted to the related Team Leader for final approval.
