CDN DESIGN ENGINEER

The Content Delivery Platform team undertakes design, improvement and expansion of the fully resilient, secured and scalable Sky Overlay IP Content Delivery Platform delivering our products to audiences in Italy.

The CDN Design Engineer has to provide efficient design solutions with high standards and longevity that meets functional and performance criteria. Moreover, the CDN Design Engineer will also be responsible for working closely with Project manager, CDN Architect, Technical Manager, CDN operations, network engineering and deployment/provisioning teams from kick-off and liaising with Test and delivery engineers and operation, until the design is tested in lab and successfully deployed in production network.

Activities

Interface with the Project management, Content Delivery Network Architecture and other internal stakeholders to elicit and document product requirements; functional and non-functional technical requirements for CDN solution development working on new platform & features design, development, testing and deployment

Devise high level and low-level CDN designs that satisfy these requirements, document solution design, rack layout and other technical diagrams and obtain stakeholders sign-off. Convey risks, timely escalate issues to management, and provide updates at various stages of the project

Optimizing CDN operation for performance, selection, mapping, resilience and cost management, from delivery at the edge to sourcing content from a range of Sky and 3rd party content origins.

Evolve our CDN partner interfacing with Sky's data collection, analytics, monitoring, storage and reporting systems, as the platform scales.

Contribute actively to test strategies and test plans developed by testing teams. Sign-off test results to ensure headline metrics and quality parameters are achieved.

Required Skills

In-depth experience with a number of the following areas: design, development, scaling and technical management of a Content Delivery Network delivering video and/or web applications, in a professional services/consulting role building OTT video content delivery solutions or IPTV network infrastructure in Media / Telco industry sectors.

A flair for scripting/coding to troubleshoot or design automated deployment, configuration and testing of distributed, containerized or discrete systems, collecting data for performance analysis and visualization across Linux-based environments.

Comprehensive, practical understanding of deploying/operating/troubleshooting web technology stacks, methods and protocols such as IPv4/6, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/, HTTP headers, TLS, caching web servers, cookies, block/object storage systems, web-scale delivery of audio/video over HLS, DASH and HSS protocols protected by DRM schemas. Knowledge of newer delivery methods such as WebRTC & QUIC. A complimentary understanding of internet delivery methods, transit, peering, IXP and the underpinning network protocols ISIS, MPLS, BGP.

Enjoy presenting your ideas, challenges and solutions to engineers, developers, managers and users of the Content Delivery Platform across the organization for a wide spectrum of applications. Ability to write clear documentation.

Experience of working in a technology-based role and interfacing to a varied number of internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work on projects with higher complexity, to implement solutions with consideration to the wider impacts cost, customer impact, timescales, etc.

Excellent document writing skills and producing artefacts such as Requirements catalogue, HLD and LLD documents, presentations and technical Diagrams.

Ability in KPI and performances analysis Monitoring systems End User (ELK, Conviva, Grafana) Excellent with CDN technologies and private caching. Experience in working in a Multi CDN operation Understanding of Internet networks, architectures, market pricing, capacity availability, and service providers.
