The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) plays a crucial role in fostering efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems that aim to enhance nutrition, the environment, and overall quality of life, ensuring inclusivity for all.

Organizational Setting

FAO Country Offices, led by an FAO Representative, focus on aiding governments in crafting policies and programs to attain food security, reduce hunger, enhance agricultural sectors, and sustainably utilize natural resources.

This position is based in the FAO Representation in Asmara, Eritrea.

Reporting Lines

The Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) reports to the FAO Representative (FAOR).

Technical Focus

The role entails program development, coordination, and operational support tailored to the local conditions and institutions of the assignment country.

Key Results

The key focus is on the effective coordination and provision of technical and operational support for FAO Representation's program and project activities.

Key Functions

  • Liaising and supporting government authorities, local and international institutions
  • Promoting FAO's mandate and activities
  • Coordinating data collection and analysis
  • Contributing to technical and policy studies
  • Assisting in program and project proposals
  • Supervising lower-grade staff

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • National of the assignment country
  • Advanced degree in a related field
  • Relevant experience in programming and technical cooperation
  • Proficiency in English and local language

FAO Representatives should anticipate fixed-term appointments with a specified end date, not exceeding five years. There is no guarantee of renewal or conversion of the appointment type.
