We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our team at Thompson Rome by Hyatt.
The Sommelier will be responsible for curating an exceptional wine experience, managing the wine program, and working closely with the culinary and service teams to enhance food and wine pairings.
The role requires a deep understanding of wines and beverages, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to educate both guests and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Wine Program Management
- Develop and maintain a diverse wine list complementing the restaurant's menu.
- Source, purchase, manage inventory, and ensure proper storage standards.
- Monitor wine costs and pricing strategies for profitability optimization.
Guest Experience & Service
- Provide expert wine recommendations, pairings, and refined presentation.
- Engage with guests to educate and create memorable wine experiences, ensuring high satisfaction.
- Conduct wine tastings and special pairing events.
- Utilize strong sales skills to upsell and enhance the guest journey.
Team Development & Compliance
- Train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and pairings.
- Develop and enforce wine service protocols and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with all local alcohol laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized wine institution (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET,AIS, or equivalent).
- Experience as a Sommelier in a luxury hotel or fine dining environment (minimum 1 year preferred).
- Knowledge of wines, spirits, and food pairings is extensive.
- Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Language: Fluent in English and Italian.
- Ability to work under pressure, with initiative and a keen attention to detail.
