ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is dedicated to advancing human-centered science and technology to address critical societal challenges. Our headquarters in Genoa are closely linked with 11 other centers across Italy and two facilities in the United States. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, encompassing fields such as neuroscience, humanoid technologies, robotics, nanotechnology, and materials science, providing a truly multidisciplinary scientific environment.
YOUR RESEARCH TEAM
You will collaborate within a diverse and interdisciplinary team of computational scientists specializing in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, image processing, big data, and high-performance computing, alongside material engineers, chemists, physicists, and heritage specialists. The CCHT group maintains extensive partnerships with other IIT research lines focused on AI and computer vision, leveraging IIT's advanced high-performance computing infrastructure ('Franklin') equipped with 256 GPU nodes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop methodologies utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms tailored for historical glass artifacts to monitor the progression of surface cracking, known as crizzling.
- Create object detection and semantic segmentation techniques for the automated identification of crack development in glass objects.
- Collaborate with CCHT researchers on the EU-funded GoGreen project, aimed at promoting conservation practices rooted in sustainable principles.
- Travel to partner research facilities may be required for varying durations based on project needs.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in computer science or a related discipline, with a focus on Computer Vision (CV) and Machine Learning (ML) (completed or nearing completion).
- Proven experience in developing CV and/or ML techniques for detecting changes or anomalies in time series imagery.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiarity with unsupervised and semi-supervised anomaly detection methodologies.
- Experience in processing and analyzing microscopy or medical imagery.
- A strong publication record in reputable CV and ML conferences or journals.
