We are currently looking for an Automation & Process Control Specialist, who will report directly to the Digital Plants Section Head, to become part of our Engineering division in Rome, Italy.

Role Overview

In this position, you will be part of the Digital Plants Section, primarily responsible for:

  • Comprehensive design, testing, and commissioning of both simple and advanced regulatory process control strategies.
  • Development and implementation of intricate logics and sequences.
  • Oversight of the supply and commissioning of Advanced Process Control (Multivariable) and Optimization systems.
  • Management of the supply and commissioning of Operator Training Simulator (OTS) systems.
  • Coordination of the supply and commissioning of Digital Application software, including 3D OTS/Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, IIoT, and MES.

You will engage in various phases of each project, including FEED (Front End Engineering Design), EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), and Revamping Projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze process operations and control requirements to define appropriate regulatory control strategies for DCS implementation.
  • Create basic and complex logics/sequences (logic diagrams and flowcharts) for DCS/ESD.
  • Formulate advanced process control strategies based on operational and optimization goals.
  • Provide technical support during DCS/ESD configuration and testing phases (FAT) for various control strategies and logics/sequences at vendor workshops and during site commissioning.
  • Prepare technical specifications and requisitions for Operator Training and Advanced Process Control systems in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Prepare technical specifications and requisitions for Digital application systems in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Evaluate bids to ensure compliance with contractual technical specifications.
  • Maintain effective communication with vendors and clients, ensuring technical follow-up on orders.
  • Collaborate with the Process Department and other engineering disciplines (Instrumentation and Control, Machinery, Heaters and Boilers, Electrical) to manage interfaces.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of a small team of engineers (internal and/or external).
  • Review vendor documentation.
  • Adhere to committed man-hours and budget constraints.
  • Provide timely updates on engineering and requisitioning activities to the Lead Discipline Engineer and Section Head.
  • Meet project quality and HSE objectives.
  • Collaborate with other discipline specialists and project support functions such as procurement and planning.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineering staff.

You will have opportunities for business travel to attend technical meetings with clients or suppliers, visit vendor workshops, and engage with colleagues at various Technip Energies locations. Occasionally, you may also oversee engineering activities related to the Instrumentation and Automation discipline directly on-site, supporting erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities.

Candidate Profile

We are eager to connect with candidates who meet the following essential qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-6 years of experience in detailed engineering and design for Refinery, Gas, Power, Renewables, or Infrastructure projects in a similar role.
  • A degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred).
  • Understanding of process unit operations, with at least 2-3 years of experience in process design or a related field.
  • Familiarity with general Instrumentation and Automation (DCS/ESD) principles.
  • Knowledge of safety interlocks and various machinery and equipment controls and logics.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to deliver work on time while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for short or long-term assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Advanced Process Control.
  • Familiarity with Operator Training Simulator.
  • Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) applications and Digital Twin.
  • Experience in Process modeling and Simulation.
  • Understanding of DCS basic configuration criteria and vendor-specific configuration blocks.
  • Knowledge of Automation Systems architecture principles and hardware design.
  • Experience in Site Operations and/or Automation Systems revamping/upgrades.
