Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronic Systems Engineer to join our team at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. As a key member of our Industrial Robotics Facility, you will be responsible for designing and developing advanced robotic systems, collaborating with our scientists and engineers to understand their needs, and translating them into functional product designs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Development of robotic systems
  • Collaboration with scientists and engineers to understand their needs and translate them into functional product designs
  • Design and development of advanced robotic systems
  • Optimization of the functionality and efficiency of our current mechatronic systems
  • Management of materials and equipment orders for accomplishing projects and keeping the laboratory efficient
  • Support of project managers in developing prototypes
  • Leading feasibility studies with companies
  • Conducting rigorous testing and validation of all new designs and modifications
  • Staying up to date with the latest technological advancements in robotics and mechatronics and proposing their implementation where relevant
  • Ensuring all designs and modifications comply with applicable industry safety standards and regulations
  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including design files, requirements, and manuals

Essential Requirements:

  • Candidates should have an MSc Degree (or be very close to submitting) in one of the following areas: Mechatronics, Control, Robotics, etc.
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and testing of robotic systems
  • Proficiency in the following programming languages/OS is recommended: C++, Python, ROS, and Linux
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators
  • Expertise in working with real robot systems and conducting research on physical hardware platforms
  • Ability and willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into the projects
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an inter-disciplinary and regionally dispersed research team, including students, and the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research with limited supervision
  • Strong communication and English language skills (written and spoken)
