Join Our Team as an Underwriter - Credit Risk Specialist

As an Underwriter - Credit Risk Specialist, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth onboarding of new clients and the management of existing relationships. Your expertise in credit risk analysis will help us identify potential risks and opportunities, enabling us to make informed decisions that drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough credit risk assessments of potential clients, analyzing financial statements, KYC documentation, and identifying potential risks of financial crimes.
  • Evaluate the onboarding of new clients and requests for additional products/services that may increase potential risk or credit exposure.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of potential clients, considering factors such as financial solidity, information management, cash flow, payment history, guarantees, industry trends, and other non-financial factors.
  • Perform KYC and KYB checks, including identity verification, business certification, property identification, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Understand acquiring risks in a wide range of complex proposals across various clients, sectors, and product offerings.
  • Engage with commercial teams and clients to maximize onboarding opportunities, manage case escalations, and support the risk and underwriting function.
  • Collaborate with compliance, financial crime, legal, and other teams to focus on high-risk clients, negotiate and review customized security contracts, and ensure robust risk management practices across all functions.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and processes for the underwriting team, identifying areas for improvement and providing solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact onboarding or client risk profiles.
What You'll Bring:
  • Proven experience in an underwriting or credit risk role within a financial institution, with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the Italian market.
  • University education or equivalent experience in credit risk, underwriting, or a similar role in the financial services sector in the Italian market.
  • Knowledge of credit risk, financial crime, and AML specifically in the payments sector, including familiarity with regulatory schemes, industry norms, and chargeback processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate complex underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A customer-centric approach, balancing risk management and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborative mindset, working effectively in a team environment to drive continuous improvement and achieve shared goals.
  • Personal growth motivation, with a passion for innovation and driving change in the payments sector.
  • Fluency in English and Italian.
