Senior Marine Underwriter

As a Senior Underwriter, you will leverage your technical acumen and interpersonal skills to significantly influence our Marine underwriting division.

Your Role in Underwriting Excellence

AIG's underwriting teams are dedicated to crafting insurance solutions across various sectors, including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, Multinational Clients, and High Net Worth individuals. We are innovating our approach to risk management, evolving our operational framework, and redefining our role responsibilities and career trajectories. Our mission is to unlock the full potential of each team member, empowering them to develop as insurance professionals and deliver enhanced value to our clients and AIG.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive profitable growth in the Marine sector by developing innovative solutions for intricate risks. You will manage the underwriting of diverse new and renewal business, utilizing your established relationship-building abilities.
  • Collaborate closely with brokers to articulate our risk appetite and value proposition, while gaining insights into deal structures, terms, and products that align with client requirements. You will negotiate pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structures with brokers and clients.
  • Expand your broker network to generate new business, participate in broker events, and cultivate new market relationships. Work in tandem with AIG Distribution, territory managers, and underwriters from other lines of business to pursue desirable accounts and cross-selling opportunities.
  • As a senior team member, exemplify exceptional customer service standards for brokers and clients, serving as a role model for junior colleagues. Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to less-experienced underwriters, assisting them in expanding their broker networks.

Qualifications for Success

  • Demonstrated underwriting experience with a solid understanding of Marine.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements effectively.
  • Strong communication, networking, and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Customer and sales-oriented mindset: motivated, persistent, focused, technically proficient, proactive, and accountable.
  • Interest in mentoring and training, even if you have not previously held these responsibilities.
