Job Title: Senior Agribusiness Finance Officer

FAO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Agribusiness Finance Officer to join its Investment Centre. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and support to governments and other stakeholders in the development of agribusiness finance solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide analytical, strategic, and technical leadership on agribusiness development, including the functioning of agricultural support services, rural markets, finance institutions, risk management, blended finance, and private sector development.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to assist governments in the identification and preparation of investment and finance support initiatives in the fields of food security, agriculture, rural development, natural resource management, and agro-processing.
  • Advises governments in the preparation of food and agriculture, rural development, natural resource management, and agro-processing studies and strategies, in the formulation of national sector and/or sub-sector investment policies, plans, and programs.
  • Develops and implements capacity development initiatives in the areas of food and agriculture, rural development, natural resource management, and agro-processing investment support to government staff, non-state actors, and private sector organizations.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree in agriculture, agro-industry, business administration, economics, agricultural economics, agribusiness, finance, political sciences, or a closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in the practical application of value chain analysis and rural development, agribusiness, and market development, processing, including the elaboration of feasibility studies and the formulation and/or implementation of agricultural investment and finance solutions in developing countries and/or countries in transition.
  • Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is essential.
  • Extensive experience in technical fields related to agribusiness development, agribusiness finance, rural finance, value-chain development and analysis, business planning, agriculture marketing, blended finance, and private sector development.
  • Experience in leading, or participating in, multidisciplinary teams for the preparation of strategies and sector studies, as well as formulation and implementation of agricultural investment and finance support solutions with a focus on rural finance, value chain development, and agribusiness.
  • Relevance of experience in capacity development for the design and implementation of food security, agriculture, rural development, natural resource management, agro-processing, and blended finance investments.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with senior government officials, development partners, and other country stakeholders.
