BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
In recent years, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has addressed an extraordinary level of crises while sustaining ongoing operations. This heightened demand challenges the organization, necessitating innovative approaches and methods to ensure optimal resource allocation to those in need.
The Change Management and Business Innovation Unit (BIU) was established to oversee transformation and foster innovation within WFP's Innovation and Knowledge Management division:
BIU serves as the advisory body for WFP BIU comprises professionals with prestigious management consulting backgrounds (e.g., Bain, BCG, McKinsey) alongside UN experienceWe undertake projects on behalf of Executive Directors, Assistant Secretary Generals, and Directors throughout the UN system, establishing ourselves as a trusted advisor to WFP and other entities (e.g., UN Women, UNFPA, Business Innovation Group). Our emphasis is on comprehensive solutions, encompassing problem identification, data analysis, operational model design, change strategy, and implementation oversight.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implementation of Business Innovation initiatives Overall priorities for Innovation and Change Management Participation in the BIU leadership team Additional responsibilities as requiredDELIVERABLES:
Depending on the timing of joining, the candidate's specific expertise, and current organizational priorities, the candidate will be accountable for delivering one or two projects concurrently. Examples of specific deliverables include:
Corporate Executive Director, Board and divisional key initiatives Provide guidance to Division Chief/Directors on prioritizing key corporate initiatives; Facilitate discussions with team members and other divisions to align on objectives, activities, timelines, and outputs; Deliver analytical and project management support. UN Reform: Facilitate UN Reform implementation within WFP and contribute to an inter-agency project team Advise on data collection methodologies (e.g., creating/updating data collection templates, preparing and leading training sessions for all participating UN entities, supporting data missions in various locations); Lead a team to conduct analysis and visualizations to generate insights and empower the CBO Project Team to make informed, data-driven decisions; Drive communication efforts regarding UN Reform. Additional divisional needs As a member of the BIU leadership team, oversee knowledge management reviews and best practices sharing, recruit, develop, and retain BIU team members; Mentor and supervise junior staff, providing support for complex analyses and inquiries; Offer additional project support based on the pipeline and new projects contracted during the contract period, as necessary.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Preference for a degree in business, economics, or engineering.
Experience:
A minimum of six years of professional experience in management consulting, change management, investment banking, or private equity. Previous experience in an international organization is also essential.
Knowledge & Skills:
Extensive knowledge and/or experience in change management and business innovation. Comprehensive understanding of best practices and techniques for process optimization (e.g., strategic planning, sourcing, logistics, finance processes, performance management, etc.) Familiarity with methodologies for developing new strategies and enhancing efficiencies. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Advanced analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative: proficiency in conducting complex analyses in Excel and producing high-quality written materials, including presentations and reports. Self-motivated with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines, adapt to a rapidly changing environment, and maintain attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various teams and clients, fostering positive working relationships. Capacity to identify client needs and align them with appropriate and innovative solutions. Fully committed and motivated to achieve the objectives of the UN World Food Programme.Languages:
In addition to a high proficiency in written and spoken English, knowledge of a second UN language is advantageous.
