ABOUT US
At the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), we are dedicated to advancing human-centered science and technology to address significant societal challenges. Our headquarters in Genoa is interconnected with 11 centers across Italy and two outstations in the United States. We emphasize excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning areas such as neuroscience, humanoid technologies, robotics, nanotechnology, and materials science, fostering a truly multidisciplinary scientific environment.
YOUR TEAM
You will be part of a diverse and interdisciplinary team where computational scientists, material engineers, chemists, physicists, and archaeologists collaborate, each contributing their unique expertise to shared research objectives. CCHT engages in extensive collaborations with other research lines at IIT, focusing on artificial intelligence and computer vision, and has full access to IIT's high-performance computing infrastructure ('Franklin'), equipped with 256 GPU nodes.
Research at CCHT is centered on developing innovative technologies and methodologies for the analysis and preservation of cultural heritage. This includes machine learning and computer vision-based techniques for automatically transcribing ancient texts, discovering and monitoring archaeological sites through satellite imagery, and digitizing cultural heritage artifacts using automated methods.
As a member of our team, you will contribute to a prestigious project funded by the European Commission, the 'Bauhaus of the SeaS (BOSS)' project. Your primary responsibilities will include enhancing CCHT's expertise in creating Digital Twins to model the effects of climate change on cultural heritage monuments and sites situated in coastal regions. You will also tackle the interdependencies and challenges across various environments, collaborating with a wide range of experts to define how Digital Twins can aid in the preservation of coastal cultural heritage.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with experience in 3D modeling, Digital Twins, and/or CFD/FEA (e.g., Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc.) – completed or nearing completion.
- Experience in 3D modeling of finite elements and fluid dynamics.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Experience in Boundary Element Modeling.
- Experience in the 3D domain (e.g., 3D reconstruction from RGBD data, photometric stereo, structure from motion).
