At the International Rescue Committee, we are committed to providing lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees and migrants. We are seeking a highly skilled Language Acquisition Specialist to join our team in Italy.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Education team to develop a comprehensive Toolkit on language acquisition for migrant children in formal and non-formal educational contexts. This will include creating guidelines for session design, strategies for incorporating language instruction into daily educational routines, and training materials for project partners.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree or higher in Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Education, or a related field, with expertise in second language acquisition or multilingual education. They will also have experience working with migrant or vulnerable children, as well as a proven track record in curriculum development and facilitating workshops for education professionals.

We are looking for a highly motivated and flexible individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and travel for training sessions. Fluency in spoken and written English is required, with proficiency in Italian an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a theoretical framework for second language instruction for migrant children in formal and non-formal settings
  • Provide guidelines for session design, aimed at education professionals, on teaching a second language to migrant children
  • Offer strategies for incorporating language instruction into daily educational routines
  • Deliver training sessions on the Toolkit to project partners
Requirements:
  • Master's degree or higher in Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Education, or a related field
  • Expertise in second language acquisition or multilingual education
  • Experience working with migrant or vulnerable children
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, particularly in creating toolkits or instructional frameworks for language learning
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops for education professionals
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; proficiency in Italian is an advantage
