Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Application Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing technical specifications to support large electric motor and drive system proposals/orders, creating a network of technical evaluator relationships with clients and vendors, and supporting system integration activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proposal and Contract
    • Prepare technical specifications for fixed and adjustable speed motors and AC/DC drives systems to meet clients' requirements and communicate these requirements to clients and internal engineering teams.
    • Evaluate supplier proposals to determine the best technical and most economical solution for the application.
    • Support system integration activities, including specification and selection of e-houses, external transformers, PLCs, instrumentation, etc.
    • Prepare detailed cost elements for technical specifications during quotation stage.
    • Provide technical guidance in proposal generation to clients.
    • Lead technical and commercial proposal development for small projects with limited supervision.
  • Project Execution
    • Support system integration documentation during project execution phase.
    • Identify enhanced product or service feature needs by soliciting feedback from clients.
    • Design competitive and viable technical approaches to resolve client issues.
    • Feedback product and service deficiencies to business unit management for continuous improvement.
    • Prepare specifications for required components.
    • Deliver presentations at technical conferences and meetings with clients.
  • General
    • Review brochures for technical accuracy.
    • Identify and suggest new products and applications to drive business growth.
    • Monitor industry trends to recommend new product and service features.
    • Track competitive environment to identify new products and technology and provide comparative analyses to commercial and R&D teams.
    • Track competitor's offerings, assess client situations, and propose competitive options applicable to clients' individual needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering or equivalent via education and/or work experience.
  • 2 years systems or application engineering experience in medium voltage drives and motor systems.
  • Demonstrated success as contributing member in project team.
  • Demonstrated successful and positive leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts.
  • Demonstrated innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally frequently, with limited notice.
  • Fluency in English language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 or more years systems or application engineering experience in medium voltage drives and motor systems for metals business.
  • Demonstrated success in client-facing, sales, or marketing-related assignments.
