About the Role:

The Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in helping the business win new orders by providing technical support to the sales team and ensuring the technical content of all quotations is complete and accurate. This will involve working closely with customers to understand their needs and providing solutions that meet their requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and discuss customer requirements with Sales Executives/Sales Administration to agree on the best equipment and options to offer.
  • Review all quotation requests to ensure they are technically complete and correct, including any customer specifications for output, pack quality, and performance commitments.
  • Provide technical support to Sales Executives, including phone, email, and in-person support, as well as traveling to meet customers.
  • Arrange and supervise machine demonstrations and trials for customers, including any trials required to support performance commitments.
  • Support customer Pre-Delivery Inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests, ensuring customer objectives are fully understood and met.
  • Undertake machine installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Tests at customer sites, working with the Field Service Team.
  • Provide technical support for new machine development projects, both during development and testing, and during customer site trials.
  • Work with the engineering teams to provide descriptions and costs of bespoke parts required to meet customer needs.
  • Assess if there may be any requirement for installation time in excess of standards and advise the Service team accordingly.
  • Participate in Engineering team's technical review of all orders received.
  • Work with the Sales Administration Team to provide technical input into equipment price lists.
  • Collaborate with the Applications Engineering Team and other Team Members to ensure commercial success.

Requirements:

  • Qualified with a mechanical or electrical engineering degree level or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a broadly similar engineering role.
  • At least 3 years' experience of the practical operation of packaging machinery and systems in customers' factories.
  • Experience in dealing face-to-face with customers, sometimes in high-stress situations.
  • Professional and well-presented manner.
  • Articulate and able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Responsible and able to work in a dynamic environment and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Commercially aware, particularly when liaising with customers.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Able to effectively use all standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be flexible on working hours as the workload requires.
  • Must be physically active and able to work (including lifting, other requirements of the role).
  • Good English is strongly required.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Project Management experience.
  • Hands-on ability to operate VFFS equipment and feeding systems.
