ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is dedicated to advancing human-centered science and technology to address significant societal challenges. We emphasize excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience, humanoid technologies, robotics, nanotechnology, and materials science, fostering a truly multidisciplinary scientific environment.
YOUR RESEARCH TEAM
You will collaborate within a diverse and multidisciplinary team comprising computational scientists specializing in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, image processing, big data, and high-performance computing, alongside material engineers, chemists, physicists, and heritage specialists. The CCHT team maintains extensive partnerships with other IIT research lines focused on AI and computer vision, and you will have access to IIT's advanced high-performance computing infrastructure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop methodologies utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms tailored for historical glass artifacts to monitor surface cracking phenomena.
- Create object detection and semantic segmentation techniques for the automated identification of crack progression in glass items.
- Collaborate with CCHT researchers on the EU-funded GoGreen project, aimed at promoting conservation practices rooted in sustainable principles.
- Travel to partner research facilities may be required, with durations varying based on project needs.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in computer science or a related discipline, with a focus on Computer Vision and Machine Learning (completed or nearing completion).
- Proven experience in developing Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning methods for change or anomaly detection in time series imagery.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiarity with unsupervised and semi-supervised anomaly detection techniques.
- Experience in handling and processing microscopy or medical imagery.
- A solid publication record in recognized Computer Vision and Machine Learning conferences or journals.
