Data Center Operations Chief Engineer

At Amazon, we are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Operations Chief Engineer to join our team in the Greater Milan Area. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, including the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, with experience in data center operations and maintenance. They will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the data center, including planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response to issues.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.
  2. Assist in the design and build out of new facilities.
  3. Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region.
  4. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  5. Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events.
  6. Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians and vendor support teams.
  7. Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
  8. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
  9. Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows.
  10. Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis.

Competencies:

  1. Ability to solve problems at their root.
  2. Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  3. Ability to maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection.
  4. Proven experience reading SLDs and control schematics.
  5. Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Work at heights and from ladders.
  2. Perform physical tasks.
  3. Work in a noisy environment with ear protection.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Strong working knowledge of Data Center infrastructure.
  3. Full EU driving license and advanced level of English.
  4. Experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities.
  5. Project Management experience.
