Job Summary

The Livestock Policy Officer - Environmental Impact Specialist will support the team in expanding and updating the approaches used to quantify emission baselines and the impact of mitigation interventions for livestock systems. The incumbent will recommend and implement new state-of-the-art approaches for additional species and emission sources, collect and harmonize relevant data sets globally, and document them following international standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and analyze technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology-related information, data, and statistics to support the delivery of programme projects, products, and services.
  • Produce various technical information, data, statistics, and reports, as well as input for technical documents and web pages.
  • Provide technical support and analysis to various assessments, studies, and initiatives and provide technical backstopping to field projects.
  • Collaborate in the development of improved or updated tools, systems, processes, and databases.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and/or lead working groups/teams, collaborate with other Divisions/Offices/Centres on work groups and committees, and promote best practices.
  • Collaborate in, provide technical backstopping to, and ensure the quality/effectiveness of capacity development activities within Member Nations, such as policy support, organizational development, and individual learning events, including preparation of related information, learning materials, and on-line tools.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influence partners in stakeholder consultations.
  • Support resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Corporate Strategy.
Requirements
  • Advanced university degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, environmental engineering, environmental science, biology, sustainable agriculture (including livestock, forestry, and fisheries), or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in assessing environmental impacts through production chains, in particular from greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and preferably for livestock agrifood systems.
  • Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.

  • Extent and relevance of experience in working with inter-governmental bodies and multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environments.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing web applications and/or visualization dashboards is considered an asset.
